Active diesel locomotive restorations in 2021

There are 44 diesel locomotives under restoration. Among them are:

14 EMDs, plus 4 by predecessor EMC
13 GEs, all but one center cabs
9 Alcos, including 2 FAs, one PA and a high hood HH660
2 Baldwins

Among the notables being restored are Southern Pacific Krause-Maffei diesel-hydraulic 9010, A Lima switcher, six E-units and two Ingersoll-Rand box cabs.

CA Niles Canyon Railroad Southern Pacific Kraus Maffei diesel hydraulic 9010 This started as a cosmetic restoration, but assistance from German preservationists located the missing engine and traction motors in a scrapyard, making full restoration possible. Return to operation is expected in 2021.
